Making Your Skincare Routine Magical

Glowing skin. That feeling you get when your skin is soft, smooth and blemish free. Who doesn't want that?

I have always believed in simple skin care. As with most things, less is more, and being selective is key. Taking care of your skin shouldn't be a chore. It should be magical, leaving you glowing. So I would like to share with you my secrets to having beautiful skin, with ease and grace.

First things first, for goodness sake, please throw away any toxic products! Many off the shelf skin care are laden with chemicals. On average, a woman will put 150 chemicals on her skin before she even leaves the house in the morning. So do yourself a favour, and download the ThinkDirty app and scan all your products. And prepare to be shocked, because even the things you have thought to be all natural can unfortunately be hiding some dirty little ingredients.

Everyone's skin is different. We each have our own unique constitution that will be benefited by different things. Some skins love heavy oils, while it leaves others breaking out like crazy. So I am a huge fan of the DIY. Of course, this doesn't mean that our skincare routine will be complicated or time consuming. In fact, I believe that it means quite the opposite!

So what are my favourite things for smooth, sexy, glowing skin?

1. Choose the right oils

I love using high quality organic oils on my skin instead of a moisturiser. Moisturisers can have lots of nasties hiding in them, or unnecessary ingredients. I like to keep it simple.

There are many different oils to choose from, right now my favourite are hempseed, sweet almond, macadamia, jojoba, rosehip and fractionated coconut oils. Each for a different reason. Some are amazing on our face, not too heavy and good on most skin types of all ages, such as rosehip oil. Others make amazing body oils, fractionated coconut oil is easily absorbed into the skin, leaving it feeling silky not greasy. Others are a little heavier and make great massage oils, such as sweet almond. With many to choose from, you will find the right one for your skin.

I find that using a blend of essential oils with a carrier oil not only leaves my skin feeling amazing, but so easily ties into my self care ritual of giving my entire body a self-love massage each evening.

As always, ensure that its pure, organic oil so that there aren't any nasties hiding in it.

2. Careful with the cleansers

There are so many natural cleansers and scrubs to choose from that it can sometimes feel like an overwhelming decision to make. Whenever I am selecting a face cleanser or scrub, I again, keep it simple. I always check it's rating in the ThinkDirty app, read the ingredients and make sure its free of any micro-plastics.

Mircro-plastics are more of a concern when buying face scrubs. Those little beads that exfoliate our skin? Not great for our environment. While the scrubs that use husks and other rougher organic ingredients to exfoliate, can be very harsh on our skin. With often very rough edges, they can actually do more harm than good to our skin, leaving tiny abrasions.

So here are some of my favourite cleansers and scrubs.

3. Masks are a girls best friend

Sometimes it doesn't seem to matter what you do, a blemish or two will just pop up. I personally I love to do a face mask once a week to help draw out any dirt and impurities, especially if I have been in the city or other places where the air may be more polluted.

Using face masks just seems to add an extra special something to your skincare routine. I love to make it a lovely little "Treat yo'self" ritual, leaving me feeling glow-y.

While there are many amazing DIY masks out there, I still can't go past these two. They feel so nice on your skin and always do the trick!

4. The secret weapon

My quick hack to help any blemish heal quickly is a doTERRA essential oil blend, HD Clear. This blend of oils including Tea Tree (which is great to dab onto any pimples just on its own) and several others, is fantastic to apply to any spots you may have on both your face and body. Full of oils with antiseptic and soothing properties, its my go to spot treatment. And it smells so good!

Even better is that doTERRA does an entire skincare range with HD Clear, which makes a great routine for anyone with blemish prone skin or struggling with acne. The foaming cleanser gently cleanses, while the face lotion hydrates, and the HD Clear topical blend can be used several times a day on those pesky spots.

5. My favourite face oil for sexy skin

As I said though, I LOVE the DIY! So I would love to share with you my recipe for glowing skin. I use this blend on my entire body, face included, and it smells wonderful! Each of the essential oils I include has been carefully chosen for it's properties, whether its soothing, anti-inflammatory, or good for a number of different reason.

In a 115ml bottle of Fractionated Coconut Oil I add:

10 drops Frankincense

10 drops Lavender

10 drops Geranium

10 drops Copaiba

10 drops Yarrow/Pom

5 drops Helichrysum

5 drops Manuka

Using a new bottle of FCO means that its super easy to measure and mix, and it's all ready to go in a bottle! Once I have added all the oils I replace what was the easy dropper stopper to a pump lid for ease of use. And there you have it. An all in one moisturiser for your face and body, that makes a fantastic self-care massage oil and is full of essential oils that will support your skins natural ability to heal. Even better? It's got no nasties. No unnecessary ingredients, no chemicals, nothing but pure plant.

So there you have it. Simple, easy, natural skincare at its best! If you would like to try any of the doTERRA skincare products for 25% off, click here. And when using essential oils, always check that you're buying 100% pure, in my house we love doTERRA. And when you try some of these (or if you have already), leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear from you!

Hope your skincare routine is magical and leaves you glowing!
