Suffering from a splitting headache or nausea from a little too much partying? It's happened to most of us at least once, and it is not fun.
Just for the record, I am not encouraging you to go out and get wasted in this blog post. In fact, I myself hardly ever drink and can count the number of times I have had a hangover on one hand.
One of the biggest reasons that I don't drink is that causes a lot of inflammation in the body, and inflammation in one way or another is generally what causes illness and disease. For women in particular, just two alcoholic beverages a day can increase their risk of breast cancer by up to 70%! Plus as many of my friends, and I'm sure yours, can confirm, alcohol often results in us doing dumb things that we sure as hell wouldn't do sober.
So... drink in moderation. Of course drinking responsibly isn't exactly what I am focusing on, so let's just say we got overly excited and lost track of the number of drinks we had on a fun night out... Which has lead us to waking up with a pounding headache, questionable aches and a craving for anything fried.
So how can I quickly recover so I can get on with my day? Here are a few of my favourite essential oils to help me get back on my feet.
Known across the world as a good oil for sleep and relaxation. This one is great to pop in the diffuser or to apply topically with a carrier oil as a self love massage to help remind your body that despite the possible mistreatment the night before, you do love it. So if you are able to spend your day relaxing, lavender is the go to for soothing your body as you recover.
Next is peppermint. One of my all time favourite oils, apply it to the temples for headaches (avoid your eyes though!), and inhale from the diffuser or make a warm peppermint drink to help settle any nausea. It is great for an energy pick me up as well if you need to power through your day still.
Once the initial discomfort and illness has passed, adding a drop of lemon essential oil to your water bottle can aid in the detoxification of your body. Working similarly to fresh lemon juice, only with a less acidic taste, far more powerful, and no risk to your teeth enamel.
So next time you lose track of your drink count, give these a try! Let me know how it goes. But please, remember that not all essential oils are created equal. Avoid any that don't have certification proving they're free of synthetic fillers, carrier oils and all sorts of toxic nasties. These simply do not have the therapeutic benefit and you cannot ingest them.
In my home, I choose doTERRA.
